About the Author
Michael Harris has taught in Spain, Bolivia and Colombia. From 1982 to 1992 he taught at the British Institute for Young Learners in Madrid, where he was responsible for setting up the Junior Department (11-14 year olds). From 1992 to 1996 he also taught English at the University of Alcala de Henares. At the moment he is involved in teacher training in Spain and other parts of the world. Michael is the co-author of World Class (Longman, 1994), Worldcup (Longman, 2000) and the new five-level secondary course Opportunities (Longman, 2002 Website: www.longman.com/opportunities). He has also published articles and methodology books on the following topics: Syllabus design; self-assessment: continuos assessment and testing: learner development: oral skills: culture and language learning. Anna Sikorzynska has worked as a teacher and teacher trainer in Poland for fifteen years in various contexts: state schools, private language schools, universities, pre-service and in service teacher training. She also writes and reviews exam materials for the national exam board. She's worked at Warsaw University, English Teacher Training College since 1991, teaching English grammar and methodology of teaching English as a foreign language. Her main professional interest is teaching grammar. She has written and co-written various books, including exam preparation materials, methodology resource books for teachers and the five-level course for upper-secondary students 'Opportunities' (with Michael Harris and David Mower). David Mower has many years' experience as an English teacher in locations as diverse as Manchester and Casablanca. For several years he taught Spanish teenagers at the British Council for Young Learners, before moving to Kensington School in Madrid where he taught 11-17 year olds. Together with Michael Harris he is the co-author of World Class (Longman, 1994), World Club (Longman, 2000) and Opportunities (Longman, 2000).

About the Author
Dee Cannon was senior acting teacher at RADA for 17 years until last year when she left to become a full time freelance acting coach in TV, film and theatre. She is considered to be one of the top acting teachers in England specializing in Stanislavski technique. Over the last 20 years she has been invited all over the world to give masterclasses and acting workshops, and she authored the ‘acting’ chapter in the Guardian’s Guide to Acting/Performance.

I really liked this book. The way the information was delivered was so straight forward and easy to understand. I will definitely go back and put the highlighted portions in a notebook for further use and application. This is such a good book.

In Depth Acting

After my first meeting with Dee I immediately went out to purchase her book. I can honestly say I have never read and absorbed a book that has provided me with so much insight, clarity and guidance in terms of the industry which I long to make my mark in. Once I opened the book I read from cover to cover, I was simply unable to put it down. If you are interested in the acting world and wanting to improve your technique/learn more then I could not recommend this book more.

Wow - I wouldn't have expected anything less

Dee Cannon is one the best acting coaches I have had the pleasure of working with so I was very excited when she published her book, which is exactly as her coaching is; accessible, direct and focussed.

At drama school I was massively drawn to Uta Hagen so it is no surprise - having been trained by her - that Dee is now being hailed as the 'Uta for 21st century.'

If you haven't had opportunity to be taught by Dee - don't despair - this book gives you access to the way she approaches her teaching - it's written just as she speaks and is the closest you can get to being in the rehearsal space with her without her physically being with you.

Her book - as her coaching - breaks down how to approach the industry in simple step by step stages, from the moment the seed to act is sown to what, auditioning preparation to what to do once you have the part and the fun work and 'Dee's technique' begins on developing the truth of your character so that your performance is fully dimensional, alive from moment to moment and always truthful.

Each stage of her technique is broken down into chapters and she explores how to access each one so that you are confident in each as you move onto the next. She gives examples of previous lessons she has taught so you can see how the technique is applied.

Dee is inspiring, and this book is her inspiration to any person with a heart for acting whether you are considering a profession in acting, are auditioning for drama school or are a professional actor wanting to streamline and perfect your technique. It's a technique that works across mediums.
