Warhol, who died in 1987, can be viewed as a relentless observer, who dwelled obsessively upon images representative of our century: the electric chair, a jet crash, the Soviet hammer and sickle, screen idols, politicians, symbolic volcanoes. A retrospective now at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, which this lengthy tome catalogues, reveals that some of Warhol's most suggestive works are among his least well-known, to wit, his space-age Moonwalk (1987), a Rorschach-like series of paintings, and the enormous, Asiatic-looking Oxidation Paintings done in metallic pigments. Packed with 325 color plates and 332 in black and white, this six-pounder includes four academic, hyperbolic essays, 33 pages of first-hand impressions of Warhol by cultural celebs, and 10 pages of his instant wit and wisdom.

This is an awesome book for Andy Warhol fans and collectors! I bought this used, and the quality was good. A little musty smelling, but I figure that's from the age of the book. Fast shipping, which was perfect for the Christmas holidays! Bought this for my 16 yr old son, who is a big fan of pop art and Andy Warhol. :)

Update - Diet and exercise recommendations outdated, technical explanations easy to understand

The technical explanations of heart disease were good and easy to understand. However, the specific diet and exercise recommendations were outdated. Such as eating margarine instead of butter, poopooing coconut oil, little or no red meat or eggs, eating nuts sparingly and eating whole grains. Grass fed, grass finished beef is high in Omega 3s and eggs eaten raw or where the yolks are runny provide a lot of nutrition.
I based my opinion on the findings of 2 doctors ... Dr. Mercola and Dr. Al Sears. The diet recommended by Dr. Mercola is closest to the Paleo diet and as follows:
* A large-scale, 30-year long study found that people who regularly ate one ounce of nuts at least seven times per week were 20 percent less likely to die for any reason, compared to those who avoided nuts in their diet
* Eating nuts at least five times a week corresponded to a 29 percent reduction in mortality risk due to heart disease; a 24 percent reduction for respiratory disease; and an 11 percent reduction for cancer
* In order for your body to adapt to burning fat instead of sugar, replace non-vegetable carbohydrates in your diet with high-quality healthful fats. Raw nuts are one source of such fats

Dr. Mercola recommends focusing on eating whole, unprocessed foods while avoiding grains and sugars which are precursors to disease. Consume a diet primarily high in healthy fats like coconuts, avocados, olive oil, butter and raw nuts like almonds(ideally between 50-75 percent in your diet) and raw, organic vegetables. Next, consume good protein, such as grass-fed, organic meats and organic pasteurized eggs. His current recommendation is one gram of protein for every kilogram of lean body mass, increasing it by 25% if you are pregnant or training for athletic events. This translates to about 49-70 grams of protein a day for most people. Eat Fruits moderately because they contain fructose, which should be kept below 25 grams a day, including 15 grams from whole fruit. Reduce or eliminate grains from your diet to help lower your insulin and for you to achieve optimal health and well-being.

As for exercise, one of the best is alternating slow walking with fast walking. So you are doing short spurts of exertion. Check out Al Sears Pace method for an example.

Update Jan 2015 --- I do not work for either doctor .... I am a regular person who has done a lot of research for my health. I watched my mother die a slow death with her low fat, low cholesterol diet topped with tons of Big pharma drugs. I refuse to live like that. Cardiologists work for big pharma ... and know how to slice and prescribe harmful drugs ... that is what they learn in medical school. To each his own .... and yes Dr. Mercola and Dr. Sears have products to sell .... just as this cardiologist is selling a book .... Both Mercola and Sears offer free "researched" and "well supported "articles on health topics. I prefer not to be sucked into the big pharma drug scene .... so my preference is Mercola and Sears. Dr. Sears has a new book that I just purchased The Ageless Heart Manual: Advanced Strategies to Reverse Heart Disease and Restore Your Heart's Pumping Power"

The title could be "Everything Your Cardiologist Didn't Explain & Advise", I read it, I did it and I'm winning.

Even if discovering Dr. Crandall's book at just the right moment hadn't rescued me from the depression and bewilderment of my stent event and given me a shining hope and promising path forward, I'd still say read his book! But it did, so I can endorse the advice given wholeheartedly. I'm living his advice right now 9 months after finding myself in the emergency room; 40 lbs lighter, healthier and happier than I've been or felt in way over a decade. His plan is simple and straightforward, lifestyle choices affect our life and he explains how. This particularly helped me, understanding how it all works for and against us, then in unvarnished terms he explains what to do about it. And if you do it and I did you're on your way all the way back from heart attack, heart disease and it's been wonderful. Living Dr. Crandall's advice and seeing the results has been such an uplifting experience it inspired my better half to create a blog about our journey called "Fix It Plan" (found via google by adding dot com). For me this was not only a life saver but I've got to say again ... a life improver, I'm back and better.

Excellent book

I found this book to provide the most relevant information in a way that is easy for anyone to understand. This is a good book for anyone to read whether or not you currently have any heart or cholesteral health issues ----- especially since many people do not even realize that they are developing problems until a serious event happens. Glad I purchased ---- plan to purchase additional copies for my brother and a friend who can benefit from this information.

Hilaire Belloc HISTORIAN

Hilaire Belloc was a prolific anglo french writer, now nearly forgoten. Among his most outstanding writings are those of the French Revolution (He wrote the The Cambridge History of the French Revolution, 1904) and his biographies on Napoleon. His work on Robespierre is one of the few unprejudiced studies about this revolutionary philosopher and politician. This is a wonderful rare book, a facsimile of the Cornell University 1901 edition, now thanks to the digital technology made available to the 21st century reader.

More Kindle shovelware

The stories are great (I first bought this in paperback over 30 years ago) but, as is often the case with older books newly released on Kindle, the proofreading and format checking seem not to extend beyond the free sample; extra/missing line breaks, extra hyphens, and uncorrected OCR errors are jarring. One essay alone ("The Theory and Practice of Teleportation") has "denned" for "defined"; "Alfred Hester" for "Alfred Bester"; "Foul" for "Poul" (as in Anderson); and others. If Sheckley hadn't already taken it, a better title would be "Untouched by Human Hands".

What a disappointment after such a wait. (In the desktop Kindle app, the book is displayed in sans-serif fonts, making every page an eyesore. Fortunately the Kindle devices seem to ignore this "feature.")

The book is actually pretty good,

though I can't answer for the readability of the kindle version that Perldiver read. As a book its definitely worth reading. Stories are OK, but the essays on time travel, teleportation, and the possibility of preserving a certain Kryptonian life form are very funny and definitely first rate.

Classic Niven

A nice collection of older Niven short stories. Not necessarily his best work but still very good. "Inconstant Moon" starts out great but then veers away from the expected conclusion to one which is less dramatic. I thought "Passerby" was touching.
